As we close out another successful year at East Coast Heritage and Archaeology, we reflect on the achievements that have defined 2024 for our team. Our dedication to preserving and enhancing understanding of cultural heritage in New South Wales has led to significant projects and partnerships that underscore our commitment to heritage conservation.
Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Assessments
This year, numerous Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Assessments were completed across the state. These assessments are vital for protecting and managing Aboriginal cultural heritage, ensuring that developments and land uses acknowledge and preserve the history and significance of Aboriginal sites.
Heritage Impact Statements
In 2024, we conducted a number of Heritage Impacted Statements. These assessments had a particular emphasis on Art Deco buildings, a defining architectural style of the early 20th century known for its rich details and geometric forms. Our Heritage Impact Statements have guided renovations and developments, ensuring that the distinctive features of this style are conserved for future generations while allowing for modern use and accessibility.
Education and Training with Transport for NSW
Partnering with Transport for NSW has been another highlight of the year. We delivered Aboriginal sites training to staff, which is pivotal in helping them recognise and preserve Aboriginal objects and places during transport projects. This training ensures compliance with legal requirements and promotes an understanding of Aboriginal cultural heritage among those involved in infrastructure development.
Working with a Local Government on Reconciliation Action Plans
One of our most fulfilling projects this year was assisting a Local Government Council in Northern NSW with writing a Reconciliation Action Plan. This plan is a strategic document that supports the council’s commitment to recognizing and solving issues of inequality and creating a community that embraces unity and mutual respect between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and other Australians.
Connecting with the Community at Supply Nation’s Connect 2024
A new and exciting opportunity for us this year was participating in Supply Nation’s Connect 2024. Our stand at this premier event allowed us to introduce our services to a wider audience, meet other amazing businesses, and establish connections that will enhance our services and collaborative efforts in the future. The experience was invaluable in fostering relationships and exploring new opportunities in the field of cultural heritage.
Looking Forward
As we approach 2025, we are enthusiastic about the opportunities to enhance our impact in the field of archaeology and heritage. The projects undertaken in 2024 have not only expanded our portfolio but also reinforced our commitment to executing our work with both passion and precision.
We extend our gratitude to all our partners, clients, and the communities we serve for their trust and collaboration, which have been integral to our achievements. We look forward to another year dedicated to preserving our region’s rich cultural heritage and fostering an environment that values knowledge and respect for history.
